Battle Wounds - 15 Month Check-up (16 months old)

Audrey had a great pediatric check-up this morning. At 16 months old she is weighing in at 21 pounds 7 ounces (sadly not heavy enough for some of her car seats to face forward!) and stands 30 inches tall. She is growing steadily around the 25th percentile which means she is smaller than 75% of the kiddos her age. Dr. Griffith was impressed by her accomplishments: lots of vocabulary, sleeping well (except for the last few nights!), good appetite and generally pretty happy and well behaved. She paid careful attention to everything Dr. Griffith did and even appeared to listen in on our conversation about time-outs!

Feeling better after a nearly 3 hour nap
Of course, she wasn't lucky enough to leave the doctors office without some battle wounds. Not only did she get FOUR vaccines but she also had her blood drawn. This was not some quick finger-pricking like last time. This was a full blown needle to the arm - like a big person! She screamed, she cried, she got mad. Who could blame her? But it was over as quickly as it began and 30 seconds later she was distracted by mooing/barking/quacking animal puzzle.

Icing an inevitable bruise after walking into a door
All said and done, this 15 month appointment was the most painful and heartwrenching one for the both of us. Now we have her 18 month appointment to look forward to and as far as I understand, there are NO vaccines!

Just in case you are feeling a little sad about all the pain our little cutie-pie endured this morning, here is a video I took of her a few hours before her doctors appointment. She is just as happy as can be dancing to her music!
